The fight for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada is facing a serious challenge—not just from ignorance, but from political figures who actively deny or diminish the atrocities of residential schools.
In a recent incident, British Columbia MLA, Dallas Brodie, was removed from the B.C. Conservative Party, after making dismissive remarks about residential school survivors. While some leaders, including B.C. Conservative Leader John Rustad, condemned her racist remarks and removed her from caucus, others defended her under the guise of “free speech.” Her removal led to defections from the party, revealing stark differences in how political leaders approach reconciliation and historical truths.
Join us for an urgent and thought-provoking discussion between Inclusivity, CEO, Wyle Baoween and Len Pierre, a respected Indigenous educator, consultant, and traditional knowledge sharer, as they unpack the implications of this event and what it reveals about the state of reconciliation in Canada today.
✅ What responsibility do elected officials have in advancing Truth and Reconciliation?
✅ Where do we draw the line between free speech and harmful speech?
✅ How does residential school denialism undermine reconciliation efforts?
✅ What can allies do to call out this type of racism and hold leaders accountable?
This conversation is for anyone who believes in truth, justice, and reconciliation—whether you’re an ally, an advocate, or someone seeking to understand the complexities of this incident and implications towards any broader anti-Indigenous movements.
Join us live to ask questions, gain insights, and be part of this crucial dialogue.
