Focus Group Backgrounder

The National Payroll Institute’s Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Audit Focus Group Backgrounder

*Please note, this information is provided for background only. To participate in the focus groups, there is no preparation needed and there is no required level of knowledge or understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion.

Background

An Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) initiative is currently underway at the National Payroll Institute (the Institute) to help identify opportunities and barriers for establishing more equitable and inclusive practices across the organization. To lead this work, the Institute has partnered with Inclusivity, a third-party Canadian EDI consulting firm. As part of the consultation phase of this project, Inclusivity will be conducting focus groups and interviews with a cross-section of members, employees and other key stakeholders.

Objectives:

  • To identify common and different experiences related to EDI.
  • To gather ideas and recommendations for how the Institute can advance EDI.
  • To assess the current state and commitment to EDI in order to develop practical recommendations for both the long and short term.

Questions:

The following high-level questions will be used to guide the discussion; however, your unique perspective is important to the process and we welcome additional information.

  1. What is the current state of equity, diversity and inclusion at the Institute?
    1. What barriers or challenges do employees/members/the organization face?
    2. What more is needed? What opportunities do you see?
    3. What barriers or challenges exist to advancing EDI?
  2. Is EDI important for the Institute? Why or why not?
  3. What are the views and commitment levels to making change?

Voluntary and Confidential

Your participation in this consultation process is entirely voluntary. All consultations will be conducted by Shalyma Cambridge, Senior Consultant, Inclusivity consultant via phone or Zoom. During the consultation, you will be asked about your personal experiences and observations, as well as your ideas and recommendations.
