Decolonization is a “buzz word” we often see in workplaces today. But what does decolonization even mean? Is it possible? What are the limitations? What is the difference between decolonization, Indigenization, and reconciliation? In this session, Len will talk more about the professional side of decolonization work, who benefits from decolonization, and together we will explore how you can include everyday acts of decolonization in your professional work.

Len Pierre is Coast Salish from Katzie (kate-zee) First Nation.

Len is an professor, consultant, TEDx Speaker, social activist, change agent, & traditional knowledge keeper. He has a Masters degree in Education from Simon Fraser University focusing on Indigenous curriculum and instructional design. His experience includes Indigenous education and program leadership from various organizations across colonial Canada.

He specializes in the development of educational programs and services with decolonization and reconciliation as its core values. He comes to us with an open heart and open mind, and hopes to be received in the same way.

Wyle Baoween works with executives, senior leaders and their teams to build diverse and inclusive organizations. He is the CEO at Inclusivity, a Canadian consulting firm providing data analytics to address inequality in our communities and workplaces.

Wyle has been recognized as one of Canada’s thought leaders in equity, diversity and inclusion for the solutions he has developed and re-engineered, including technology for assessing unconscious bias, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Culture Change Curve, and data analytics for EDI.

In his role at Inclusivity, Wyle has worked with some of Canada’s largest employers and Inclusivity has been recognized as one of Vancouver’s ‘Companies to Watch’. Wyle also appears regularly in media outlets including Forbes, CBC and the Vancouver Sun.
